Apprehending a fleeing suspect always involves risk. Even a rugby tackle on concrete can prove fatal. The fact that there's machinery involved doesn's really make much difference. In the Beshenivsky case, the report of a "silver car" was rapidly passed to CCTV who found it leaving the town and programmed it in real time into the automatic number plate recognition software on the M1. The fugitives were followed automatically almost two hundred miles down the M1 - observed at least some of the way by stealths - and apprehended when they got "home free". Somewhat puzzled, it seems. At the same time, the cellphone handoffs down the route were correlated with the vehicle's movements through the cells and the police also had most of the names before they knocked on the door. And they're getting better at it. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 633/267 |
