All I'm saying for now about the incident that was going to be the short
st= ory Hunter's Moon was that the Farstar is incredibly outgunned by the
singl= e Jem'Hadar fighter that it encounters. A key part of the story is
the Fars= tar's crew coming to terms with the fact that, in a straight
fight, they wo= uld last about 20 seconds against the enemy.
The whole thing is about thinking outside the box.
As it is I've decided to move the story formerly known as Hunter's Moon up
= in the schedule. I'm putting it into the story I'm writing now as a story
t= old by Serendipity to the other main characters since it explains
certain t= hings about her. It means I will have to rewrite bits and pieces
that I've = already written but as it is I am rewriting large parts of the
story anyway= .=20
I should have something ready to post by Saturday or Sunday.

Once the Dominion made clear that a war was on, the a more warlike set of=

Well - mainly the reason I avoid the Dominion War is because the ST-OM ar=
c was
designed *before* the Dominion war happened on the screen.
But during the Kliges'chee war, Starfleet will attack the Kliges'chee. =
The
Kliges'chee have *already* killed billions and bombed whole planets to de=
ath.
That counts as firing first.=20=20
Now if the Kliges'chee stop their warfare and request talks, then Starfl=
eet
would happily oblige (While being careful of a trap. You can't save anyo=
ne if
you get yourself shot.) While the Klingons or the Romulans would use it =
as a
break to regroup and pursue their war.
The difference is this - Starfleet believes that peace can be achieved, =
the
Klingons and Romulans believe that Victory can be Achieved.
Starfleet is the Federation's first line of defense - In the case of the
Kliges'chee, always insisting that the Kliges'chee start a battle by shoo=
ting
first is not rational. The Kliges'chee have already said that all space b=
elongs
to them and they consider everyone else food animals with bad attitudes.
In the case of an unknown species, or one where their position is not cl=
ear in
advance, then no, Starfleet does not start static.=20=20
There's a difference between an ongoing war and sticking your toes into t=
he
unknown.
In the case of the Dominion, they destroyed tens of thousands of Starflee=
t
ships and millions of Starfleet people. The Dominion has announced by wo=
rd and
Deed that a war is on. I don't think this means Starfleet is obligated t=
o let
them shoot first after this.
Recall this is during a *declared war*, which changes the rules towards
declared enemies a bit.
After the war, the old rules would be in place.
