He isnt accessing Fidonet from a BBS.

He said he lost a couple of packets, which are the files Fidonet systems
send to/from each other, therefore no packets, no messages, he couldnt
reset pointers to messages that dont exist on his system..

What Dan could do (Dan you reading this)

If his uplink carries the message areas he is concerned about in a live
message base and not on passthrough, Dan could send in a areafix request to
his uplink requesting a rescan.
