For what reason you want highly polished marble surface for the Foucault tester?

Vladimir
Polished marble is heavy and flat. It will make a superb slide for the
carriage because it's so heavy and smooth. With the right dry lubricant
between the pieces, and a reasonable lack of dust particles, it will be the
smoothest version of a tester I can make. Compared to my wood-and-metal
contraption now, it will be far superior.
