Hello Jean -

--8<--cut

JP> Hee ! I went back to 1990 in my system clock, did a reply
JP> to you and it was dated Jan 26 90, no problem. I got back
JP> in my clock and moved it up to 1993, read my reply to you,
JP> and closed it and it was dated 93. So, it takes the clock
JP> for what it is. I will keep it there as it is not too
JP> important that it should show properly.

HUGE mistake there Jean, HUGE.

Other software relies on the dates for various reasons.
Searching for files can occasionally only be accomplished by
using date of creation once the filename is forgotten or if it
was generated as a random selection (as in Internet temp
directory files). The OS needs ordered dating of files. Your
setting the date back 10 years could come back to haunt you in
the long run. I would'nt do that if I were you.

Dates on FIDO messages are irrelevant, I agree. I was a bit
annoyed that they were even a part of the process when Y2K
started killing off some good software. The _valid_ date and
time of message entry is when the REP is uploaded to the BBS,
not when it was composed. I have forgotten to upload REP
packets which makes it appear that my messages pre-date others
in the echo but really no one had read them when they wrote
_their_ messages.
