I was referring entirely to the WinModem and other similar devices which require platform-specific software in order to operate as modems. Rockwell are not innocent of this either, witness RPI, though even RPI isn't quite as bad as the WinModem. You would NOT believe the legal nonsense Rockwell has woven around RPI. From what I understand, any company which actually licenses RPI and signs all the associated documentation is laying down and asking for a lawsuit from Microcom re MNP licensing, which is the reason why none of the major communications packages support it.
