I spoke *way* too soon. The call that sent out the above message was
tragic, and lifting the phone handset after revealed vast quantities of
static on the line :-(

All the above problems caused by a group of Telstra techs working in the
rain with no covers over the open pits !! Even the 1100 operator said this
was a "just plain stupid" thing to do!

 I'm not worried. I've now sent several faxes to different
numbers, and have had no problems at all, (apart from Win95's stupid fax
interface!).
