subject: New Modem

Hi Paul,

PS>Buying a 14.4k modem is a (IMHO) bit silly these days, with so many
PS>28.8k modems available...

Hmmm... yea, well....

PS>USR Courier v.34+ (33.6k) or perhaps a Spirit Viper v.34+
PS>I have a Courier online now, nice modem.
PS>I may be looking at a Spirit Viper in the near future.

They are certainly very popular, I was actually thinking of something
to tide me over until I'll upgrade my computer, hopefully within a year.
Then I'll get a modem, which is integrated with the system. I tryed a
couple of Banksia modems, one 28.8k and the other 14.4k. Both of them
gave me, and the BBS I tryed to use them on a very bad time. So I'm back
using my old Bit Blitzer 2400.

The Telstra local service man is telling me, that there will be big
changes coming by the end of the year in our area, Cleveland Exchange
area. Then Telstra will be guarantying a speed of 28.8k.

Not surfing the Internet directly, only sending e-mail now and again, I
thought the high speed not really necessary, and was more looking
for relayablility, but at the same time a bit of speed upgrade to load
down the odd file would be nice. Without costing a leg and an arm.

PS>p.s for non Austel approved modem, Supra would be a good choice...
PS>p.p.s the USR & Spirit are both Austel Approved...

Wouldn't tough a non Austel approved one.....

Thanks for your advise,

cya Bill.
