EV>I think I have the FINAL WORD to that issue but I'm not using W8,
EV>just XP and Vista here.
I have Vista on a laptop that I bought at the Monroe, Louisiana
hamfest a few years ago. I mainly take it to "Hamming In The Park"
events, or to a hamfest, to do a demo of the VoIP modes of Echolink,
Packet Via Telnet, D-Star, and D-Rats. The original laptop (which is AC
power only now, since the battery on it died, and you can't get a
replacement), plus the 2 desktops, all have Windows XP Professional,
Service Pack 3.
Neither my elderly Mom or myself can afford the cost of hardware or
software for my 4 computers, plus her desktop computer, which also has
Windows XP Professional on it. Microsoft doesn't believe in "if it ain't
broke, don't fix it".
EV>I would like to read more about that power issue with W8, as I haven't
EV>seen anything about that in Kim Komando or Leo Notenboom newsletters.
I understand that "Windows 9" is to come out late in either late 2014,
or in the spring of 2015.
While Windows 7 usage is up, XP usage hasn't dropped off that much.
And, it seems fewer people are using Vista, Windows 8 or 8.1 -- and yet,
apparently Windows 9 will look a lot like Windows 8. Microsoft
apparently can't realize that even making it look like software of the
tablets (which is killing their profits), is not impressing the
purchasing public.
Microsoft wants to be "all things to all people"...whether it's an
operating system, browser, etc., where they basically can "corner the
market". The thing is...when you strive to please everyone, you'll find
that you've pleased no one.
