I just went through a similar performance with a Banksia 14400bps modem

Then I had a Banksia 28800 etc and it gave me even more probs. Reading
in this conference, and in the Comm. conference I think the main problem
was, that both the Banksia modems had an RPI interface, which my
software was not compatable with.
The comm program that came with it (Quick Link II) was the same as the
one I got with my old 2400 and has no Z modem protocol. When I tryed it
it wouldn't work very well at all.
So the modems connected O.K. but not for very long and garbage came down
the line. Any way on top of that I had a bad line, which Telstra fixed
as well as they could.
Now with my 2400 I have no probs, exept for being slow. Like a donkey.
It even picks up again without any fault, when my wife attempts to us
the other phone, to make a call at the same time I'm on line, downldg a
file.
So you reckon you had a good run with your 14400 Dynalink? Will keep it
in mind.

Thanks David for this

Cya Bill.
