Yep. That graphics software usually has better conversion to B/W.

There are number of non-exclusive possibilites:
1 - Try to set WP/Word/Publisher to print graphics at maximum resolution.
2 - Use your graphics software to re-size the pictures first to the size they
will be in the final result. I.e. DON'T allow WP/Word/Pub. to resize the
picture.
2 - Use your graphics software to make a Black-and-White bitmap -- I.e aloow
_it_ to 'rasterize' the picture in stead of WP/Word/Pub. Specialized graphics
software tends to be better at that job than word processors.
