No, two modems will speak to each other through a piece of phone cord just 
fine.  ATX1D [Enter] on one, ATA [Enter] on the other.
For ZModem file transfers, that's probably all that's needed.  If you want 
other things typed between modems, one of them needs to have both local 
echo and remote echo activated in the comm program.
