I just had a brain storm on your problem with grunged reply packets
 when you reopen them.

When you get the erge to reopen a reply packet first copy it to a
different folder so you still have the good one. Then if it gets
grunged if you can get a hold of Dale S and send a copy of the good one
and the grunged one to him for examination he might be able to
determine what is going on and if it is the fix he authored that is the
 problem.

Granted it might take several tries to get a grunged packet, but the
pay off might be a fix or lead as to what is causing your problem.
