1978, they totally hosed up our copyright laws trying to bring them into
sync with European copyright laws. Biggest change, they dropped the
requirement that money be changing hands for a classification as copyright
violation.

Net result, a system that was geared towards providing a reasonable return
on their labors for creators and authors was turned into a control
mechanism.

Bunch of morons, should have followed least common denominator way of
thinking about it.
