subject: silly os/2 question

SD> Why bother wasting that kind of computing power on a hobby anyway?
SD> That's like owning a Ferrari only to drive across the street to
 SD> 7-11. I've got a 3.2gHz P4 sitting here unused that I could slap
SD> the BBS on, but why? Really, that's a silly question IMNSHO.

agreed, but i'd make that ferrari my vehicle and retire my other vehicle
for that task... it would still amount to about the same thing, though... i
got the horsepower but would only use it when i got "out there"
and just ran with it ;)

SD> As for room, I've always found room for my BBS machine in all the
SD> places I've lived. Never had any problems with the lack of space.

yup... i've got plenty of room... this computer room used to house myself
and my two step brothers back in the day ;)

SD> Then again, I'm not running all of my services at home

that's me, too ;)

SD> so I don't need everything, but heck, if I wanted to, I could
SD> easily host both of my domains on my OS/2 box with no problems.

i could if i had the memory and the horsepower... i know i've just
mentioned my recent forced upgrade of the bbs box... that now gives me two
or three PIII 800mhz boxes and one dualy PIII 800mhz... but there's that
power bill thing... we've talked about going offgrid over here and we could
easily do it if it weren't for the technology power pull... one of my UPS'
is kicking 450 to 550 watts of power 24x7... the other is running about 200
to 250 watts... then i look at the only light i use in this room and it is
only a 20 to 40 watt bulb... it is rather "whoa" at times when i
think about it :?

SD> Instead, I pay $5 a month and let someone else deal with all of
 SD> it. :)

i've thought about that, too... but i just can't let go of the control i
have with them here at my fingertips :)
