 Hello Frank

Yours was a very interesting post but I have been successfully
using for quite a long time now a much simpler method of achieving
 the same result.

 I simply edit the Registry

 This is what I did:

 Go to "Run". Type "regedit".

We are looking in the folder "Class/Modem/00001" for the reset
 string for your modem.

Do a search by pressing F3. Search for the string MDMUSR for the
USR Courier modem. I think that search will find the Sportsters
.inf file as well. Search will find and highlight MDMUSR. The
bottom line starts with the word "Reset". Next to reset you
 will find the words "ATZ".

Change the line "ATZ" to "AT"

 Save and exit

 Reboot.

You are now able to interrogate your modem after internet
connections without Win95 resetting the modem and losing all the
 information.

 Cheers

 Rob
