-> What's the water temperature up there right now? Is Barnegat Bay a
-> salt water Bay? Do you you have to wear wet suits? How well can you
-> ski behind a PWC? Lots of questions huh.
Darn... and I'm just starting my first cup of coffee
Just put the boat in the water the middle of this week. Ocean temp is
TDC (To darn cold) and the bay is usually 10-15 degrees warmer. Ocean
temps generally hit the 70s near July, Aug Sept. Right now the ocean
temps are probably upper 50's to low 60s. Definitely wet suit
territory at beginning of season.Bay temps vary greatly depending on
part of tide cycle, area of the bay that you are in etc. I'm up near
Northern end of bay and it doesn't fluctuate too bad, (near the
Manasquan River inlet, However we do a lot of picnicing near Barnegat
Inlet and let me tell you at times that water is quite brrrr refreshing.
Barnegat is a salt water bay and takes me roughly 2 hours to cover a
major part of it at 40 knots. (Running from Mantoloking NJ to Atlantic
City)
We ski behind a 3 seater and it has enough umph to get you up (no pop
shots) in deep water starts. Slalom skiing is fantastic behind it. It's
even better suited for ski boards. Not much thrill for those who love to
catch big wakes though. For those that love big wakes we pull with our
24 ft Formula. Reason we do alot of skiing with the PWCs is that the
weekends get to be like the LA Freeway on the bay, and we can get to
areas that boats can't with PWCs.
Hope I covered all your questions.
Bill
