subject: help with BW the OLR

___------

The Do's:

Do use the BW doors at the BBS you use for FIDO if you can find
a BBS using the BW doors (and they have tested it for Y2K).

Do use v2.30 of the OLR if you intend to do QWK packet
downloads.

Do use Dale Shipp's 'fix' for the damage BW OLR does to the
dates on your QWK reply messages.

Do be honest about your configuration and why it "works for
you".

Do consider using a Y2K OLR if all of this becomes too
troublesome rather than just give up on FIDO. There are free
Y2K OLRs out there, more now that before Y2K. :-)

___--------

The Don'ts:

Do not use v2.12 BW and expect Dale Shipp's 'fix' to correct
the damage to the dating of QWK replies in the BW OLR.

Do not use QWK packets without the 'fix' from Dale Shipp
installed on your system along with the BW OLR.

Do not pretend that there are no problems that need to be
addressed when using an OLR that is not Y2K and is trashing the
dates of the QWK messages.

Do not pretend that your install of BW OLR just works and you
have no idea why it works when you _really_ know exactly why it
works.

Do not depend on the BBS to fix the damage that BW OLR QWK
packet dates will have if you ignore the problem. FIDO BBS are
_supposed_ to remove messages dated older than 3 years and NOT
fix them.

Do not wait around for George Hatchew to show up and fix BW
OLR. Even his friends here on FIDO have not had contact with
him for _years_ now.
