Since the time stamp on your message looked reasonable (i.e. is a
current date), I can only assume that the mail door on Doc's Place
where you upload your messages has a Y2K fix to correct any time
stamps that are grossly out of date. Some places did that. If you
uploaded to a BBS that did not do it, and the 1993 date was accepted,
then it is quite likely that some one of the mail movers would kill
the message as being out-of-date. Some do that because old messages
(where old is a parameter, e.g. 4 weeks) are usually the result of a
configuration problem on some BBS who is spewing out duplicates when
  they reset some pointer.

In other words, if it works for you -- feel free to do that. Not
sure what other problems you might have on your system because of it
though (many programs look at and use the system time).
