That kinda depends on how you define profit doesn't it?

Is "profit" what the gas station makes, what the refinery makes,
what the company who picks up the oil from the well down the street makes
or what the farmer down the street gets for allowing the well on his land?

If in my example there are 4 different entities making profit and in
another example it's all controlled from ground to your gas tank by one
company does that change your definition of "profit"?
