I'm a fiscal conservative. I can hardly believe what I read in the NY Times today:

And some American pundits (Bill O'Reilly, bless him, springs to mind) think
Canada is so left wing ... yet we've run balanced federal budgets for
almost ten years in a row now, having lived through and learned from the
consequences of living beyond your means during the 70s and 80s when we
consistently ran deficits. It is now political suicide in Canada to run a
federal deficit (which IMHO is a d***ed good thing).

I really wouldn't care much at all about this (none of my business really )
except for the influence US fiscal policy has on the rest of the world,
given how dominant the US economy is.
