My mother had a copy, given to her by an American sargeant who was her
boyfriend for a while in 1944. She couldn't speak highly enough of the
courtesy shown to British girls who went out with Americans - a jeep and a
driver to take them home, chaperones, etc.
Unfortunately, her boyfriend never made the invasion. They were out one
night in Tamworth and he was taking her home to Fazeley on a motor bike -
he realised he was going too fast to make the island on the A5 but she
didn't. At the otherwise appropriate moment, she leaned into the turn and
he didn't.
He was very seriously injured. She said (she died in 1992) that she was
never able to find out what happened to him.
