I got the idea when looking at your 6 inches. It took me a while to understand the concept, but I decided to use it. I am not sure it is a "true" tridob because I use a standard azimuth motion (3 teflon pads on the ground board). Because of the width of the binoscope, I could not put the azimuth pads directly under the altitude ones. So stability is not be as good as it could be.
