Yes. Typically in Fidonet such splitting is done on an arbitrary 16 kilobyte
boundary (effectively done around 15 kbytes, to allow for headers & footers
stating the split regions and sequence of those text portions). There is no
specific 'standard' citing this limitation but it is believed that software
authors of times long past came to this agreement. Technically-speaking
Fidonet's own standard cites a limitation of 'text unbounded' (i.e. unlimited),
with control markers to contain the text, which, may have exceeded the
capabilities of program compilers in those times.
Also, please see the reply to me from my friend Richard Menedetter in Vienna,
who reminded me of GoldEd's capability of UUE _encoding_ files (as well as
decoding such). I mention this in case it forms a part of your point package.
