Once upon a time, out on MARS.

While reading the mail, wispering this:

HC> This is a short off topic message from a Windows XP User by the name of How
ie
HC> Coombe who is interested in hearing from anybody on the Virus Echo who may
HC> have information on virus's that can affect a Windows XP OS Endowed Laptop
and
HC> how i may avoid it, prefferably without going into the Internet,

Best way, is to buy a copy of one of the leading brands of
Anti-virus software, such as Norton, McAfee, Trend Micro's
PC-Cillin, or one of the free downloads such as the german AVP
(Anti-Virus Personal), keep them updated. Buy or download an
effective Firewall program, such as Black Ice Defender, or Zone
Alarm (free) Pro (commercial) as the built-in firewall included
with XP is almost as useless as water. Then call MS and buy the
Service Pack 1 disk, as it is a very large d/l and highly
impractical unless you have a FAST broadband connection, and
patch the OS. Then hit MS's update site for the patches that
AREN'T on the SP1 disk.. After that you should be able to cruise
the WEB with normal caution, and be fairly well protected.
