On Saturday, July 16, off Sandhurst Shores (25 miles west of Kingston),
a 34foot tri-marin, LADYHAWKe was struck while sailing back from
Picton. The strike occured witwarning and the charge travelled
down the forestay and back along the lifelines, causing the bow to
split open. Part of the charge travelled down the shrouds and caused
severe damage to the main hull, one outhull and the stern. The only
reason she stayed afloat was that she was a tri. The main hull was
completely flooded when she was towed back to Collins Bay Marina.
The crew, a husband and wife, were shaken but uninjured.

I rember a report of 15+ years ago of a sailboat at Dawson's Marina
on Lake Simcoe being struck at her mooring. As I recall, on the following
morning she was found on the bottom. Pumped out and re-launched, she
appeared sound but sank again that evening. When hauled out
and filled with water, she OOZED from all the pinholes in the hull.
