It might be a little dangerous to let them go, as I point out in this
old essay. . .


I foresee MAJOR problems for all of us if they break away...

for beginners... Quebec does not have the necessary agricultural
resources to support its population, nor does it have a sufficient Gross
Domestic Product to function as a nation (they don't even have enough of
a GDP to function as a PROVINCE!)  If they break away, I foresee an
inexorable selling off of all Quebec's rich natural resources (minerals
in the Canadian Shield) to the Americans (what the leadership there
lacks in ethics,  they more than make up for in sheer buying power!)
When Quebec is completely bankrupt I see them coming to us (the "other
9" and asking for re-instatement into Confederation Canada, and we,
being the softies we are, will accept them in, because it would be seen
as a cruelty to refuse to help our beleagured neighbours, so we'll take
them back, assuming their national debt and any other liabilities
they've incurred, but now they are even worse off than now, and in need
of even MORE transfer payment dollars than we're already sending; only
we'll be sending them out of pity rather than extortion, either way, the
rest of Canada goes down, and Quebec, after a rough period of
time(probably short, they're not masochists) ends up right where they
are now... it's the Prodigal Son all over again...

hmm... does the P.S.'s father, knowing how it's going to end up, draw
the line, and keep the P.S. from squandering his heritage (Canadian
Shield), or indulgently give in, and start preparing for the assumption
of the debt load?

I find it really hard to believe that Quebec is primarily populated by
people who know Christ!

I wonder if it would work for Anglo Canada to appeal directly to the
Pope?
