Because they don't know the details. Both the E34F and M34F use the
Rockwell RC288DPi (R6682) V.34 datapump which is an integrated DSP+ROM
which implements most current ITU-T datacomms standards.

The E34F uses a 10MHz 8-bit Rockwell C39 or C40 processor, which is
essentially an R6502 with some RAM, ROM, a CRC calculator and some other
hardware. It also uses Rockwell standard firmware with some minor NetComm
OEMization.

The M34F uses a 20MHz 16/32-bit Motorola MC68302FE processor (basically an
MC68000 with some additional magic), has 128K of internal RAM as opposed to
the E34F's 32K, 256K of flash-upgradable EEPROM as opposed to the E34F's
128K of factory-programmed OTP EPROM, and it uses NetComm-proprietary
firmware. The gruntier uC allows it to perform certain features (X.25, DES,
etc) for which the C39 is difficult to program, and the larger EEPROM
allows it to have online command help.
