Actually, I'm quite serious. I had such training, from an expert in the
field, as part of my childhood education and it quite literally saved my life
on several occasions. Weapons are out there, rather you like it or not, and
_any_ weapon (even a car) is far more dangerous to self and others in the
hands of someone untrained in it's proper use than in those of an expert.

Of course - I wouldn't have it any other way. I myself hold a brown belt
(in Shotokan) and we have a teacher who holds 3rd dan (black).
