Because this evidence wasn't all fabricated by "exils" to sucker you.

If Saddam was the utter monster you'd like to believe him to be, why is the
only charge brought against him a crime of exactly this nature?

Have you seen how tenuous the presented evidence is?  Most countries
wouldn't convict him.  The vast majority of it is pure fiction.
