subject: Telnet Issues

DS> I don't know if this is the right echo for this or not, but here
 DS> goes.

DS> I've discovered a glitch with Virtual Advanced Software, where some

DS> DISCONNECTED as soon as they connect...and then the software EXITS,
DS> where no one else can logon.

what OS? can you capture the traffic that causes this with something like
wireshark or tcpdump? is it repeatable? is there a coredump? what's in the
log file? is there any error log?

DS> I thought it was an anomaly, as I had run into it when trying to
DS> logon from my Mom's place, when I'd go over there to help her with
DS> computer issues, that I couldn't take care of remotely via Radmin.

so you are saying that you have had it happen to you when you've tried to
login from remote?

DS> But, this evening, David Perussel, of The Telnet BBS Guide,
DS> reported the problem as well.

hummm...

DS> I've never run into this problem before, and was curious what can
DS> be done, such as switching the telnet port to something like 2323.

it is unlikely that switching the port would change anything... not if it
works most of the time and then not occasionally...

DS> I've also sent email to Steve Winn, current developer of Virtual
DS> Advanced Software, for his input.

i didn't know the original author had passed the software on... i remember
it being commercial some years back when someone i know spent some time
hacking the registration stuff in it... that was waaaaay back, though...

DS> Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

need more information ;)
