they are prefered and used to be used by all previous keepers... thom started
the email receipt capability but the original netmail receipts method was still
working... i remember he fussed at me for using the HOLD keyword so that the
netmail receipts were held on his system until i polled and picked them up
instead of him delivering or routing them... i didn't see any problem with his
system holding them for a month until i connected for the next update cycle...
he didn't like that for some reason and it wasn't too long before more internet
capability was added... that's when i switched to using email for my updates...
i much prefer to use FTN methods for most all FTN related traffic... nodelist,
echolist, fidonews, etc... netmail receipts would be very welcome...

REPLY-TO or REPLY?? in either case, detecting the format of the address in this
Reply-To line should be easy enough to decide whether or not to send the
receipts as netmail or as email... consider if someone wants to update via
email but prefers the receipts to come back as netmail... use the same basic
format for all and only accept one format...
eg:
REPLY the moderator, 1:1/999.0
REPLY the moderator, moderator@some.domain.invalid

all you should need to do is write the receipts to a file name and then post
the contents of that file via a text_2_message-type tool so that it is
addressed to the destination... the tool should create a nice netmail in your
netmail area... there's no need at all to go messing about with MSG files but
if you are already reading them, writing them should be a breeze... i have such
a tool but i don't think it will work in your environment unless you can run
16bit DOS apps... i use said tool every month to send our echolist updates as
netmails as well as posting the monthly rules in the echos we do that for...
since my system also gates, netmail is also easily gated to email if the
destination is an email address... that's a function of my routing, though...
