Hi Rob,
I have had good luck with putting pressure on the lap and mirror with a bar clamp.
Put one face of the bar clamp on the edge of the lap and the other on the
opposite edge of the mirror blank.
(Put a piece of wood between the steel bar face and the mirror) Soak the
assembly with water to soften the cerium between them. Give the clamp a few
turns to put some shearing force on the system and let it sit for 15
minutes.
The pitch will creep a bit and then give the clamp a few more turns. Repeat
at 15 minute intervals.
Keep this up and be patient.
It will pop loose.
Or just put the mirror and lap in the freezer for a few hours. Take it out,
put a block of wood under the edge of the concrete lap so the mirror is
hanging free. Give the narrow edge of the mirror a sharp tap with a WOOD
hammer.
The pitch will shatter and the mirror will be free. When the mirror breaks
free, it will fall and hit the concrete floor below unless you made
provisions otherwise.
