There were odd sorts of beer you could get in Korean Marine beer halls (when
you could catch one open), Tiger Beer may have been one. I never tried any of
them. I'd already heard of some of the stuff listening to a couple of uncles
talk about them who were in the Korean War. If I couldn't get American beer I
didn't drink beer at all. The ROK's drank some of the most sulfurous shit I
ever ran into. The smell alone was enough to warn me off!


I  had occasion to spend about five days in the company of a ROK Marine NCO
who was about the equivalent of an E-7, once. He took me to some of the
weirdest places, especially in the middle of the night. There were places in
tiny little hamlets that had better whiskey than officers were able to get in
officers clubs down in Saigon!
