On 05-03-08, JOHN MASSEY said to TIM RICHARDSON: TR> Gawd! what garbage! In Vietnam there was Hamms (absolute trash!), Schlitz TR> (worse, if such was possible) and Budweiser. Budweiser was hard to come TR> by, so you had to make do with Hamms or Schlitz. Vietnamese wine (it TR> looked like water buffalo piss that had been fermented, aged, and TR> bottled!) tasted better than Schlitz! JM>Did you ever try "Ba Moui Ba" - Biere "33", or even worse Tiger Beer? There were odd sorts of beer you could get in Korean Marine beer halls (when you could catch one open), Tiger Beer may have been one. I never tried any of them. I'd already heard of some of the stuff listening to a couple of uncles talk about them who were in the Korean War. If I couldn't get American beer I didn't drink beer at all. The ROK's drank some of the most sulfurous shit I ever ran into. The smell alone was enough to warn me off! I had occasion to spend about five days in the company of a ROK Marine NCO who was about the equivalent of an E-7, once. He took me to some of the weirdest places, especially in the middle of the night. There were places in tiny little hamlets that had better whiskey than officers were able to get in officers clubs down in Saigon! --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 34/999 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 134/10 140/1 226/0 SEEN-BY: 236/150 249/303 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1417 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 2320/100 105 SEEN-BY: 2320/200 2905/0 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
