There was a Centennial commission for this event. I *believe* Dwight D.

Yes the 60s were charged. No doubt about it. I was 11 years old when the
flag was raised here. We went through "Freedom of Choice" and
then desegregation without riots in my school. There were a few minor
incidents, but far less violence than exists today that's for sure.

I do not know the history of the other states or exactly when some like
Georgia made the battle flag a part of their state flag although I think
they did along about this time period. I believe Mississippi did much
sooner.
Here, as I understand it, there was a bill that had the flag raised over
the dome as part of the 1964 Centennial, but there was nothing in it
stating when it would come down.
