There's an undeniable knee-jerk anti-Americanism within a small but
significant portion of the Canadian body politic. I personally find it
juvenile, unbecoming and politically counterproductive. However much of it
I believe is due to cultural insecurity - the consequence of a small
country located beside a very large and economically and culturally
dominant one.

The juvenile behaviour does (unfortunately) run in both directions. By way
of example a few months ago there was an Anne Coulter video circulating in
Canada in which she and her fellow cable news panelists were cutting up
Canada with the sophistication of a bunch of drunk 12 year olds. I had to
remind (some of) my Canadian friends that despite Coulter's 15 minutes of
fame, she's not mainstream America, and that I'd always been treated with
respect by the literally thousands of American colleagues I've worked with
over the years.
