When used as a modem under RPI-aware software, the RPI modem does have error
correction and compression. Under non-aware software, RPI mdoems are a hell
of a lot more functional than a USR Winmodem which has NOTHING in
hardware!! :-)

They're all garbage. I wouldn't {buy,use} a USR Winmodem, an RPI modem, or
a GDI printer. They are all useless in power user environments.
