On Wheeler Dealers, they mentioned that the lead in the gas helps cushion 
the valve seats and if they had the head open on the engine, would replace 
the valves with a more unleaded-friendly valve.

There was a Unocal station in Redwood City, CA, near the border to Woodside, 
an expensive suburb in the San Francisco bay area. They had one pump that 
pumped 105 octane racing fuel, and it would be fun to see the Lamborghini, 
Cobra, Vector, Ferrari and even a Konigsegg or Mclaren filling up.
