Despite the group name (WIN95) this FIDO group isn't really about Windows 95... and I'd be surprised if anyone currently posting on it is currently running Windows 95 on any systems. (When Win98 was released, we debated whether to change the name to WIN98 but concluded that it would cause too many issues for the world-wide sysops carrying the group - each of whom would have to rename the group on their system). That said - it might actually be an interested experiment to install Win95 in a virtual session, and see whether problems arise. It might be difficult to get any modern security software to run on a Windows 95 system - but on the other hand, I doubt Win95 is being actively targetted by modern malware authors. In any event, assuming a firewall somewhere (not necessarily in the Win95 VM), and assuming you don't go out of your way to engage in stupid risky online behaviours, you may find the system won't automatically get infested - and if it does, it's easy enough to simply erase a virtual machine with nothing lost but time. --- Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; Intel Mac OS X 10.6; en-US; rv:1.9.2.12) Gecko/2* Origin: Fidonet Via Newsreader - http://www.easternstar.info (1:123/789.0) SEEN-BY: 3/0 633/267 640/954 712/0 313 550 620 848 @PATH: 123/789 500 261/38 712/848 633/267 |
