TO*As I understand it, Mariner *is* Mercury, but is a mix of different
  *parts; some Chrysler. This is the word from the Merc dealer that I
  *buy my ourboards from, and they refuse to work on Mariner engines.

Your Mercury dealer is MISTAKEN and you can quote me to him. Mercury 
just bought Force (Chrysler) a couple of years ago. Except for a few 
minor parts a Mariner is a Mercury. I do believe Mariner stays about a 
year behind Mercury. The reason your Mercury dealer doesn't work on 
them is they sell for less money.
