On 05-14-08, ROSS SAUER said to BOB KLAHN: >> My last few months were at Ft. y-choo-ka Ariz. I was RS>50's or early 60's, mentioned "Ft. Y-Choo-ka." RS>They called it "Ft Hoochie-Coochie" though. Ft. Huachuca is a major Army base in Arizona. They have a large U.S. Army intelligence center there, as well as school. At one time a large part of the desert around Ft. Huachuca was an aircraft and artillery gunnery range. Back in the mid or late `70's, a guy went to visit his father and brother who were doing time in Florence State Prison in Arizona, staged an escape from the open-ground visiting area that included the father, the brother, and another prisoner. They hijacked a pickup with a camper on it and made their way to the gunnery ranges of Ft. Huachuca. That area is nothing but open desert, the hottest area in the state. It gets upward of 130 degrees in the shade down there. They had no food or water, and slowly died of dehydration. One died of one or more bullet wounds recieved in the escape from the prison area. A few years afterward....a bunch of guys got the idea of going out onto the gunnery range and collecting up the cartridge and shell casings left over from practice firing and air attacks. While they were engaged in collecting brass....a military helicopter `buzzed' them. The driver of the pickup they were in panicked and drove off, leaving the rest behind. Instead of going back for them later, the driver assumed the military had caught them and they were in custody. They died on the desert. --- *Durango b301 #PE** Origin: Doc's Place BBS Fido Since 1991 docsplace.tzo.com (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 14/300 34/999 90/1 106/1 120/228 123/500 140/1 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1410 1417 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 633/260 267 712/848 800/432 2222/700 2320/100 105 SEEN-BY: 2320/200 2905/0 @PATH: 123/140 500 261/38 633/260 267 |
