I have found a peculiar problem using QmodemPro v1.53 that does does not
occur when using Procomm Plus 2.0 for DOS on the same terminal and host.
Here are the facts and I wonder if anyone can help fix it.
Using QmodemPro v1.53, I dial a subscription service provided by Oregon
Health Sciences University (OHSU) which give me access to MEDLINE and
other databases as well as an email account (I don't use it) and other
internet services. I think they are mostly a Unix shell system.
The domain name for their email is @ohsu.edu. They require VT100
terminal emulation.
Once I have logged on and entered "Ovid" (a database search engine), I
then have access to MEDLINE and I can do searches of the indexed medical
literature based on various keywords for author, subject, textword, etc.
The difficulty is this: Using Qmodem, the arrow keys on my keyboard do
not execute the desired function in MEDLINE/VIEW DOCS -- namely I do not
get the second page to scroll up. I have tried using both DOORWAY OFF
and DOORWAY ON and these both give different (incorrect) responses
from the host which should not be associated with any kind of down
arrow. In the DOORWAY OFF mode, pressing the down arrow makes the host
EXIT from the VIEW DOCS function. When in the DOORWAY ON mode, the down
arrow produces an error message notifying the user that s/he is at the
START OF DOCUMENTS. Neither of these two outcomes are appropriate for
the down arrow keypress in the VIEW DOCS section of MEDLINE under Ovid.
By comparison, this difficulty does not happen when using different
modem software -- e.g. Procomm Plus 2.0 for DOS. When using Procomm, the
down arrow keypress at the local terminal does indeed cause the remote
host to scroll the second page to the screen as intended.
Clearly there is some kind of bug or problem with the VT100 emulation
for QmodemPro v1.53 because an incorrect scan code is being transmitted
to the host and the host is acting on it. The problem does not occur
using Procomm Plus so that fact also vindicates the host. I am wondering
whether the ANSI.SYS driver I have loaded is involved in some way?
