Oh it's more than that.

A) Authorizing a release of secret info etc (esp that in part thought to
come from friendly states) to counter an "op-ed" in a paper????
Jesus H Christ. Methinks that gives a hint to a certain blase/banality
which had crept in wrt secret info full stop.

B) Where is the dividing line in the US between personal/party &
country wrt policy etc?

i.e. Nixon crossed that line & I assume many of presidents either have
(w/o being found out) or came awfully close. i.e. given the info here (wrt
the war/WMD etc) was about influencing the American people i.e. the
internal politics & debate in the US then....isn't that party politics
& thus not a valid reason to use the office & privileges of the
state? Mucho like using the internal/external security forces to spy on
/sabotage the opposition party.

C) It keep reinforcing the view that Bush gives the image of the straight
talking simple minded texan etc as a mask for being much more like Nixon
(Ok a simple minded Nixon ). The mask of a fool & indeed the
"mis-underestimating" by your enemies etc is always useful (in
foreign lands I never used to tell people if I could speak their tongue
unless I had to).

i.e up till now he could always try & pull the Good Tzar/Bad minister
trick much as Reagan did, i.e. it's all Rove/Rumsfeld/Cheney 's etc fault
but not the Good Tzar's....

Even now he does it esp wrt "mistakes" i.e. "I did something
good, we made mistakes".
