Back in the old days, I used to use DOS VDMs to connect with my network - The
BBS ran DOS, I ran OS/2. I'd set up a DOS VDM with the network drivers for my
network and access the BBS through it.

If you can still find the DOS Lan Manager drivers out there (they were free
from Microsoft) you could set up a DOS window to talk to your Windows shares.
SMB should be possible, though.
