I just donated mine to charity. Early Taurus transaxles had an aluminum
piston that eventual fails. There is a steel replacement but if you have a
used car worth less than $2500.00 it's not worth the price of the car to
break down the transaxle. Interestingly enough my car was in perfect
condition, the frame just cracked in the front making it completely
worthless. My new motto is "friends don't let friends buy Fords"
