When all else fails we can alway's depend on Gerry Calhoun :

Yes, I think it was dragsters who were the ones who came up with the
idea. Factory pistons are what I was referring to. There were
many other aftermarket suppliers around I realize but those were
fairly expensive sources. After you could get a factory one the 283
conversion seemed alot more common as people brought old motors in for
another life.

Around here too. My older partner remember people racing them almost
exclusivly for years. At the time he was running a 427 though and didn't
play with them much (That Rat's vs. Mice thing) Wish I was around back
then :> (He's in his mid forties and I am only 21)

Cool! I am into Super class racing. I crew for a super gas
car and run a super street. Sort of the same deal too, couldn't afford a
car but a fella had a shop across the road from me. After I got older
and a job I bought a junior partnership in his business (Hey, I wanted
some of that shop for my own projects *wink*)

Only get's nasty when you remember the wrong ones.
