Hello Bob! 17 May 08 04:44, you wrote to Bob Klahn: BA> You also forgot NDOS from Norton. It shipped with Norton Utilities. No he didnt,,, NDOS wasnt a bootable operating system.. Neither was 4DOS.. But to be exact, NDOS was a onetime /LICENSED/ and /REBRANDED/ version of 4DOS, from the people of jpsoft, jpsoft is still around, 4DOS is now freeware, they also put out 4OS2 and 4NT, currently 4NT's development has halted at version 8, when they wrapped it up in their latest product, which I use called Take Command. They took take command, 4nt and tabbed console interface (TCI) and rolled those 3 into one product. afaik, 4OS2 isnt freeware but no longer developed. NDOS (4DOS), 4DOS, 4OS2, 4NT are enhanced replacement command interpreters. NDOS and 4DOS both replaced or could be used to replace COMMAND.COM 4OS2 and 4NT both replaced or could be used to replace CMD.EXE Under DOS, one could elect to load it as a replacement command interpreter via the SHELL command in config.sys or calling it from autoexec.bat or manually. Under OS2 and NT (NT/2K/XP/Vista) they could be used side by side with the native command interpreter. But can be setup to be the default one if need be. DR-DOS's COMMAND.COM although was more powerful than the COMMAND.COM that came with either IBM's PC-DOS or M$ MS-DOS. DR-DOS also had better extended and expanded memory managers and one could also map in video memory, since video ram wasnt a factor back then unless one got into gaming. They even rivaled QEMM. == Ross Fidonet Feeds Or Fidonet In Your Newsreader: http://www.easternstar.info E-mail: ross(at)cassell(dot)us | Blogs/Other Places: http://links.cassell.us ...
