  It's not all clear what you mean, but you may have a problem because you
have called a win32 program from a DOS one, so notepad started
asynchronously. Instead of "notepad" try "start /w
notepad" or something similar :) (for help, use "help start"
in the command prompt; I'm not using Windows).
