I can't explain why no one has replied to you, but...
MS> Searching for my aunt Mary Ann Schroeder/Patrie who was born June 12,
MS> 1934 in the Town of Day, Marathon Co., WI to Ella Schroeder and Nick
MS> Patrie. Ella, my grandmother died giving birth to Mary Ann. I have
MS> been told Mary Ann either was given up for adoption to a couple in
MS> Marshfield, WI or given to an orphange in Sparta, WI or even died at a
MS> very young age.
What was her last name? I would assume Patrie if her parents were
amrried, but the way you tell the story they might not have been.
Who told you these tales? Do you trust them? Why would they not tell
the truth? Do they (or did they) have access to the data personally?
It's possible that the truth is not available within your family.
If Mary Ann lived and worked, she was given a Social Security number.
If she went into an orphanage, her name was probably not changed; she would
have married under her given last name; you can check on her through the
Wisconsin vital statistics department.
What orphanages were in Sparta in '34? Call the State and see what
department handles that. You might even be able to find out if she
was adopted simply by asking the State if that happened.
If she died...do WI death certificates list birth names? She'd be
in the files somewhere. How old might she have been if she died young?
MS> Mary Ann had one brother, Marvin Schroeder, (my father) who was also
MS> known as "Peanuts", one aunt, Mabel who married John Thon, and one
MS> uncle, Albert. Her grandparents were John and Emma Schoeder. All are
MS> deceased.
MS> Both my father and aunt Mary Ann were born on their grandparents farm
MS> just east of Rozellville, Marathon Co., WI on Hwy C. The mailing
MS> address was Stratford, WI however.
Do some of your relatives have any old letters from anyone to anyone else,
with a mention of Mary Ann? How was her birth recorded in the family Bible?
Did newspapers of the time ever have articles on adoptions? Or listings
of such? Would there have been a story when Ella died in childbirth and
the kids were shipped off? Would there be information in the church the
family attended at the time?
You might see if you can find anyone who lived around there at the time.
They *might* remember something useful.
Good luck. Keep us informed.
... If you don't latch the door, the cat will watch you.
