Bollox. The primary duty of a soldier (officer or man) is to those he
serves with/those who serve under him. That is the atomic unit of mil
organization. I would not expect you to even have an inkling of that. If
you are a good officer & you have things running well & you are
facing the enemy then b*ggering off is out of the question.
Obviously however if you are a Commissar such as you are well suited to be
then your only duty is to the party which is why undoubtedly the above is
foreign to you.

No they're not. You should check your US Mil code of justice. I remember
laughing out loud when some US marines explained this to me some time ago.
To a British soldier being able to disparage the civies is a God given right.
